“Back to the Future” is a time travel comedy that was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by both him and Bob Gale. It was produced by Steven Spielberg and starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson. It was released theatrically July 3, 1985.
The film was a critical and financial success. It went on to become the most successful film of that year. And it turned Michael J. Fox into a bonafide movie star.
A few interesting tidbits about the film:
– Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly. But after many weeks of filming, it was decided that he wasn’t right for the role. So the producers went back to their original choice and cast Michael J. Fox as Marty. (Fox wasn’t available when they first approached him due to his commitments on “Family Ties.”)
– The time machine was originally conceived to be a refrigerator, but Zemeckis felt that kids might try and lock themselves inside one and abandoned that idea for the more conveniently mobile DeLorean.
– If Robert Zemeckis’s hit film “Romancing the Stone” had flopped, “Back to the Future” may never have happened. It was only off the heat from that film was Zemeckis was able to approach Steven Spielberg and get the film set up at Universal.

And with this posting, Vintage Week comes to an end. But from time to time, I will continue to throw up older items of interest.
But in the meantime, I just found something that will generate 1.21 gigawatts of electricity so let’s hop into the DeLorean and head back to the future.
