“The Flash” aired its season finale last night. (So Warning! Spoilers Ahead) It was titled “Fast Enough” and centered on Barry’s quest to save the life of his mother. With the help of villain (and mother killer) Eobard Thawne/Harrison Wells and a reactived partical accelerator, Barry was able to summon up enough speed force to travel back through time. As he did, he was able to see flashes of his own future. I’ve added those future pics below. Lets go through them.
This first pic shows Caitlin Snow‘s eventual transformation into the villain Killer Frost. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says that may happen next year or the year after. I can assume that around that time, we may see Cisco Ramon transform into the superhero Vibe (since it was now confirmed by Thawne/Wells that Cisco was affected by the particle accelerator – plus Cisco has shown he can see into alternate timelines). So it seems there are going to be some big changes coming up in future seasons of “The Flash.
This next pic shows us the famous Flash Museum. At some point, as The Flash becomes so illustrious, he’ll have an entire museum dedicated to his superhero honor.
It looks like rough times are ahead for Barry Allen. He may be serving some time along with his father.
I believe we have a plug for “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” the superhero spinoff from “Arrow” and “The Flash.” And yes, that’s Sara Lance (Black Canary, now White Canary) back from the dead. For more on this show, click HERE!
And speaking of a “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” plug, we got our first appearance by Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl played by Ciara Renee.
And we got a better look at that future Flash costume as Barry came face to face with his future (non-mother saving ) self.
And then there was this little Easter egg. It seems that Jay Garrick’s version of The Flash does exist. He was the first flash in the comics and part of the Justice Society of America. This was his signature helmet. It has been mentioned that they may introduce other Flash’s on the show (other than The Reverse Flash, of course).
And there was yet another plug for “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” when Thawne/Wells made mention of Rip Hunter, a time traveler from the future who created the first Time Sphere. Rip Hunter will be played by Arthur Darvill (Rory of “Doctor Who” fame) on the new spinoff.
Overall, I thought it was a decent season finale, though I do feel there were some bizarre choices made by some of the characters. I think the producers might have created a bit of a moral conundrum. For example, would hero Barry Allen really risk destroying the entire planet (and universe) to save just one person, even if that one person was his mother? Would he risk rewriting everyone’s future – for better or worse? Even his own father begged him not to do it.
I’ve read some of the comments on other sites and found it interesting that a number of people were calling Barry a super villain for doing so. Which poses the question… if Barry came across another meta-human who was going to potentially destroy the world to do exactly what he did, would he have stopped that person and locked them away in the S.T.A.R. Labs jail? I feel they could have easily written around this silly issue without making him (and everyone there) look so reckless.
Logical issues aside, I thought they really knocked it out of the ballpark this first season, from the first episode on. This has easily become one of my favorite new shows and a ‘must-watch’ the night it airs.
Per TV Guide, Grant Gustin (BarryAllen/The Flash) says this of season two:
“What’s fun about this show is that there’s going to be multiple timelines as we move forward,” Gustin says. “I think we’re going to start showing Earth-One and Earth-Two in the near future. There will be kind of different dimensions going on.”
So I suppose it’s possible that Jay Garrick, Killer Frost, and maybe Vibe will pop up on Earth-Two as opposed to Earth-One. Either way, it sounds like season two is going to be as much fun as its maiden voyage.
Here are a few more pics from the finale.
