I’m an occasional watcher of “Saturday Night Live,” but I usually only tune in if they have an interesting guest hosting that week.  And unfortunately, I do find myself fast-forwarding through big chunks of the show.  I’ll watch the opening guest monologue and weekend update most of the way through.  But a lot of the comedy sketches can be cringe-inducing.

But for a show that most people continue to say hasn’t been funny in years, it still does very well in the ratings.  So something is certainly working.  And I think it’s pretty safe to say that the only way SNL will get a true overhaul is when the show’s czar, Lorne Michaels, decides to part one day.  But if I were you, I wouldn’t hold my breath.  He’s got a pretty good gig.

And with that said, last week’s edition, hosted by Ryan Gosling, produced one of the funniest sketches that I’ve seen on the show in years.  I’ve watched it many times now and it cracks me up each and every time.  And part of the humor was that the cast members couldn’t keep it together either, with Ryan Gosling being the biggest perpetrator.

It’s been said that Lorne Michaels isn’t a fan of when his cast crack up during the sketches, so I wonder if anyone got the whoppin’ stick.  I would certainly hope not in this case.
