Game of Thrones “The Mountain and the Viper” Graphic Screenshots

Game of Thrones Title CardLet me start by saying these pics are EXTREMELY GRAPHIC!  Yes, it’s not real.  It’s only TV.  But they are gross all the same.

The “Game of Thrones” episode these come from is entitled “The Mountain and the Viper.”  It aired Sunday, June 1st, 2014.   I thought overall the episode was all right.  Violence, of course, but nothing out of the ordinary for “Game of Thrones.”  As the episode approached the end, I just figured it was going to be a quiet one leading up to the last two epic episodes of the season.  I was wrong.

Star Wars Episode VII New Set Photos

Star Wars LogoIt pains me to say this but you have to give it to TMZ.  Those sons of bitches have spies everywhere.  As despicable as I find their site at times (which is almost all times), it is stupidly entertaining.  They’re like an ex-girlfriend that you really hate, but continue to be drawn back to.  Though I am tempted to take their bus tour.

Ingredients
  1. Stars: Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi,
  2. Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman
  3. Written by: Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin
  4. Directed by: Seth MacFarlane
Instructions
  1. Seth MacFarlane directs, produces, co-writes and plays the role of the cowardly sheep farmer Albert in A Million Ways to Die in the West.
  2. After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend (Amanda Seyfried) leaves him for another man (Neil Patrick Harris). When a mysterious and beautiful woman (Charlize Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband (Liam Neeson), a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.
Notes
  1. I really wanted to like this movie. I generally like Seth MacFarlane’s humor. I enjoy “Family Guy” and to a bigger extent “American Dad.” I thought “Ted” was very funny and just overall a good film. But I learned over the years to never go into a movie with overly high expectations. You’re only setting yourself up for disappointment. So I’d say I went into this film with very normal expectations. I figured, in terms of jokes, a few hits, a few misses, but that I’d probably enjoy it to some degree. I did not — to any degree. Neither 90, 180 and sure as hell not 360.
  2. There are just so many problems with the film that it’s hard to decide where to begin. Actually, no it’s not. I’ll begin here. The movie’s not funny. Sure, there are some laughs. If you keep throwing jokes at the screen, something will eventually hit. But I expected better than that from MacFarlane. He plays this as someone whose friends have told him he was a funny guy, but then choice to test that compliment out onstage… and died. Funny in person doesn’t always translate to funny onstage (or on screen).
  3. Next up, the movie is just too damn long. If feels the full length of the runtime and then some. I always believed that most comedies work best around 1 hour and 40 minutes. Two hours is just too long. Did you hear that Judd Apatow? And the film’s pacing was terribly off, most likely due to the long runtime.
  4. And sadly, I found some of cameos to be forced and out of place. Most just didn’t play well and seemed shoehorned in. There is one in particular that I’m thinking of, but I don’t want to spoil it here. Also, it was clearly obvious they could only get Liam Neeson for a short period of time since his character awkwardly disappears for most of the film. But if that was intentional, it was a poor scripting choice. And then let me touch upon the film’s blatant overuse of cursing. I have no problem with cursing at all, but MacFarlane is only using it here for the shock value. Unfortunately for him, cursing is no longer shocking. He was clearly going for the cheap laugh. But no one was laughing.
  5. I do believe there was a much better film to be made here. I think the main issue is that Seth MacFarlane didn’t know what kind of movie he was making. I feel as if he threw the kitchen sink at the screen but ultimately broke it in the process. And I do think that a more tightly edited (and shorter) version could’ve possibly helped the film greatly. A lot of people attacked MacFarlane’s screen presence. I don’t think he’s bad onscreen, but he does need to relax more and not ham it up so much. He’s forcing himself to be funny in the film and it shows (badly). And his constant modern day commentary on the Old West just took me out of the film. It made me feel as though I was watching him narrate a documentary on that time period. His character was just too aware. I understand the unique style he was going for, but it didn’t work.
  6. I really do like Seth MacFarlane. And I hope this film serves as nothing more than a thorn in what is otherwise a very good career. I do very much look forward to seeing his future offerings.
  7. And on a side note, why does no one know how to use Sarah Silverman? I loved her show on Comedy Central a few years back. It was original and very funny and really showcased what she’s capable of doing. But in films, no one seems to give her the kind of material to really exhibit her comic abilities and this movie didn’t certainly do that. And I’d like to give special kudos to Charlize Theron for really giving it her all and doing a great job. And to Gilbert Gottfried for his very funny (and too short) portrayal as one of our American Presidents.

New Photos from the Set of Terminator: Genesis

Terminator 5 PicSome new set pics have hit the interwebs today from the set of “Terminator: Genesis.”  In this continuation – reboot of sorts, “Game of Thrones” Emilia Clarke portrays the tortured heroine Sarah Connor this time around.  On an interesting note, her “Game of Thrones” co-star Lena Headey portrayed the same character for the TV series version (“The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) a few years back.  Jai Courtney portrays Kyle Reese, Jason Clarke does some John Connor, and finally, everyone’s favorite Governator returns to the role he originated.  Need I really say his name.

Doctor Who: Series 8 2014 – ‘Rain’ Trailer

Doctor Who Series 8 Rain Trailer Pic 18So here’s the deal.  This is not an official BBC Trailer for “Doctor Who” Series 8.  It’s a ‘Fan-Made’ trailer, but a brilliant one at that.  A YouTuber who goes by the name “John Smith” does these incredible, and extremely professional looking, “Doctor Who” visual effects videos.  This one is definitely worth a minute and seventeen seconds of your life or I wouldn’t post it here.  And it would be a crime if I didn’t add a bunch of screenshots from it.

Did You Know That Ben Affleck Played Superman?

ben-affleck-supermanI have to admit that I forgot about this little known film called “Hollywoodland” where the soon-to-be Batman once played the role of Superman.  Okay, to be more accurate, he actually played the role of George Reeves who played Superman.  The film was about a private investigator looking into the supposed suicide of George Reeves who many believed to have been murdered.

Ingredients
  1. Stars: Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart,
  2. Ian McKellen, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Evan Peters
  3. Written by: Simon Kinberg
  4. Directed by: Bryan Singer
Instructions
  1. In the future, mutants and mankind have all but been driven to extinction by powerful sentient robots known as sentinels.
  2. As a last resort, Wolverine’s consciousness is sent back in time to the early 1970’s, placed into the body of his younger self in order to stop this apocalyptic chain of events from occurring.
  3. To do this, he’ll need the help of some of his mutant friends (Professor X, Beast, etc.), but he finds that their younger versions are far from the people he remembers.
Notes
  1. If you’ve never seen an X-Men movie before and you want to check one out, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” isn’t the one to go and see. And yet, I loved this film a lot. It was extremely enjoyable and entertaining. Then what gives, you ask? Why shouldn’t I go see this one? And the answer is this… it’s very continuity heavy. You might like what you’re seeing, but you won’t really understand a lot of what’s going on unless you’ve viewed the previous entries in the series. It would be a damn shame if you couldn’t enjoy the film for everything it has to offer.
  2. There is a lot to service in this movie – two different casts and time frames, an intricate storyline, pulling a somewhat fractured franchise into a cohesive whole, and fixing some past mistakes while pulling off a reboot of sorts. Whew! Tall order. And guess what? Singer pulls it off in grand fashion. Most of the characters get serviced reasonably well. Although Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is in the film, this is not a Wolverine movie. He serves as the link to both past and future casts and helps drive the story along. But overall, it’s essentially an ensemble piece. And what an ensemble it is. But Singer also made sure to capitalize on Jennifer Lawrence’s stardom by giving her a more prominent role in this one. Her character serves as the key to the mutants (and humanities) future.
  3. But the welcomed surprise for me was Evan Peters’ Quicksilver. He stole the show in every one of his scenes. The one real drawback of this film was that he wasn’t in more of it. There is a kitchen scene involving his character that will be talked about for years to come. Easily the best scene in the movie.
  4. The film’s production design and effects are excellent and the movie does a great job at capturing the feel of the 1970’s. If anything, I wish we got to play around a bit more in that era and just really have fun with it, but there was just too much to do. And there are a few surprise cameos in the film, for which I am not going to spoil here.
  5. Without a doubt, this film is going to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer. And with this being the seventh film in this series, amazingly, it will most likely breathe new life into this franchise. Usually movies will degrade with every sequel until the eventual reboot. This film series actually took its reboot (X-Men: First Class) and un-rebooted it with a reverse karate move, thereby returning it back into its original form. And by combining both cast of characters, it created a larger (and more cohesive) X-Men universe, and a more interesting one at that.

Spoiler Photo Revealed from MacFarlanes “West”

A Million Ways to Die in the West PosterSpoiler.  You’ve been warned. I did a more extensive article on this reveal just a short while back.  You can access it HERE

Seth MacFarlane included a neat little cameo in his soon-to-be released film “A Million Ways to Die in the West.” Personally, I would have preferred not to be spoiled on this one, but what can you do?  Damn you, Internet!!!  Actually, that’s unfair.  The internet isn’t to be blamed for this one.  It’s the marketing department for the film that did it this time.  I first learned of this cameo from the trailers for the film.  I can only assume they included it as a marketing ploy to bring in more people to the flick.  But sometimes it’s best to hold a little back.  I’d rather not watch the whole movie in a two minute trailer.  Anyhow, I planned on seeing this film regardless of the cameo.  The movie looks funny.  Here’s hoping it’s more than a one off joke, but I’m not holding my breathe.
