Ahhhh, 1983! What a year! Jedi! That’s what I remember. That’s all I remember. As for “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” the first and best in the “Vacation” series, I can’t honestly remember if I saw it in the theater or on video for the first time. Since it was rated ‘R’ I was definitely too young to get into the theater by myself. I probably saw it on video. Either way, what a great film. And Christie Brinkley. Yes, there was definitely Christie Brinkley! I do remember her from ’83. So Jedi and her.
Flash forward to 2015. And it’s time for a “Vacation” all over again. No Christie Brinkley (as far as I know). But there is Chevy Chase (in most likely an extended cameo). And apparently there’s some Thor dong. Yeah, I said it. And I’m not going to say it again. You’ll see what I mean. I’d rather have Christie Brinkley back.
So the story goes like this – a grown up Rusty (now played by Ed Helms) decides to take his family to Wally World (think Disneyland). He wants to relive that memorable vacation from his childhood’s past. And I’m guessing so will most of us (as in the ’83 movie). Lucky for us, we don’t have to travel across the county to do so. We can just pop a copy of the original film into whatever player we own or PPV the thing.
Anyhow, this is a reboot/sequel-ish type of thing. In other words, all of the other past films happened in this continuity, but they now want Ed Helms to, well, helm them. Who knows, maybe it will actually be funny.
So here’s that trailer. Oh, and it’s a red band. Which means if you are going to watch it at work make sure no one who’ll narc on you is paying attention. And wear some headphones. There are naughty words. Plus you’re co-workers are trying to work.
Your Vacation begins on July 29th. Thor dong! I said it again.
