I’ll admit that I know very little about this property.
“Guardians of the Galaxy is an upcoming American science fiction superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film is intended to be the tenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by James Gunn, with a story by Gunn and Nicole Perlman, and features an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, and Benicio del Toro. In Guardians of the Galaxy, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan. In order to evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a group of misfits including Gamora, Rocket, Drax the Destroyer and Groot. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.”
This sounds very much like a cross between “Farscape” and “Firefly.” And I consider that a good thing. Doesn’t hurt that they have Chris Pratt (Parks and Recreation, Lego Movie) in the lead role. I’ve been following Pratt since “Parks.” He definitely has that ‘It’ factor that is missing from so many up and coming actors these days (i.e. he has a personality). This is a guy who shows that he is having fun on screen, thereby inviting the audience to enjoy the fun along with him. And that is why I love these Marvel films. They are just great dumb fun (something that is missing from so many movies – I’m talking to you stiff 80’s remakes).
So here is the just-released first trailer for the film. I think they did a good job at selling it. This definitely looks as though it will be a crazy ride.
