If you haven’t heard by now, Warner Brothers is making a “Supergirl” live action show for the CBS Network. Melissa Benoist (Glee, Whiplash) stars as everyone’s favorite female Kryptonian (and Superman’s Cousin) Kara Zor-El.
The show is produced by Greg Berlanti, who has also produced “Arrow” and “The Flash” for the CW. Two fantastic shows in my opinion. So my hopes are high that this show will be just as entertaining. To date, it’s uncertain if “Supergirl” will live in the same TV universe as those other two. I think it would be a lot of fun if they were able to do cross-overs.
And from what I understand, Superman does exist in “Supergirl’s continuity. But I would be surprised if the movie warlords allowed him to make an appearance (and he most certainly wouldn’t be played by Henry Cavill). It will be interesting to see how they skirt the issue.
But thanks to stunt casting, we will get a “Superman” of sorts. Dean Cain (Lois & Clark) has been signed for the show, along with the original movie “Supergirl” Helen Slater. As for the parts they are playing, that has not yet been announced. For a full cast list to date, check out their IMDB page.
The first two official photos of Melissa Benoist as Supergirl are below. And if you’ve never seen the original “Supergirl” film, check out the trailer below that. It’s unfortunately not a very good film.
