J.J. Abrams snuck a fast one by everyone by making (producing) a possible sequel to the 2008 monster film “Cloverfield.” 

Originally titled “The Cellar” and later “Valencia” it’s about a man (John Goodman) who abducts a woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and holds her hostage in his cellar, telling her that the outside world is now uninhabitable.  She, and us (the audience) don’t know what to believe. 

The film was more recently retitled “10 Cloverfield Lane,” leading us to believe that it’s a possible sequel to “Cloverfield.”

J.J. Abrams officially had this to say to Collider:

“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

So as it stands, no one is really positive what this film exactly is.  My guess is that it maybe takes place during the original film and is just another perspective with a different group of people.  And unlike “Cloverfield” it has been reported that this is not another ‘found footage’ film.

The film stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr.  It arrives in theaters March 11th of this year.
